Struggling to stay in control on the trails? Click here to quickly learn the basic riding techniques to give you more control to prevent big crashes. Starting up your 2 stroke dirt bike and immediately going for a ride is one of the worst things you can do to it. If you want the top-end, as well as the bottom-end to last longer and save you money, you need to properly warm up your dirt bike.
Click here to learn how. How often are you replacing the spark plug? If you have to put a new one in every ride, stop and inspect before riding again.
This definitely indicates a new top-end is required, as well as a new spark plug. I have personally seen a CR80 that fouled plugs because of a bad top-end. It turned out that the piston was cracked and it eventually just lost compression.
The cylinder was used again because it was surprisingly still in good shape! A scored piston or cylinder can be caused by multiple things.
A lack of lubrication from not enough 2-stroke oil in the gas or lean jetting can damage the piston and cylinder, as well as the crank assembly and bearings. It makes me cringe when people try to warm up their dirt bike too quickly, and I see it quite often. A lot of top-end damage is done if you start your bike and immediately ride it hard or rev it without giving it enough time to warm up. A piston has a certain amount of clearance between it and the cylinder wall.
I'm 34 and do race for semi serious fun. So, I've seen some KTM 's with 75 hrs in my price range. Others with 50 hrs just above my price range. Also enjoy a so I'm open to those and have found many with hrs. My concerns are with the KTM's shaving weight all over the bike. How is that effecting longevity and tightness of the frame and other components?
All i have to say is check out the frame before you buy it. They seem to have cracking problems. When you buy it, pull the top end apart. Id be less concerned buying a hour than a hour or f. I'm in the market for a" Born in Prague, living in LA,so if you don't like my spelling, blow me!
KTM's are not known for their durability. Also resale is hard because of their fast advancement in production, new model's are outdated quickly. Parts are expensive and not always readily available.
KTM and Husky are definitely elitist brands. Good performance quality but that's about it as far as mx is concerned. Offroad is a different story. If you have to have a KTM then go with a two stroke. Also resale is hard because of their fast advancement in production, new model's are I have to disagree with your thoughts on resale.
Then I cleaned it up and sold it cause I just seem to ride an Alta usually. Jeeze, I think there is a TM or two around here. Stuff is really good in terms of materials and manufacturing when you are purchasing from reputable sources.
I've been riding these things too long. What can I say? How about that Combat Wombat? I'm pretty good with my service. I only put on like 3 hours in one riding day but I guess I've been going out pretty often Fuck Corona. Any shop recommendations for the service??
